Shoreditch offers a perfect balance for people looking to experience London’s vibrant energy but with a creative, laid-back atmosphere.
One of the most renowned, dynamic neighbourhoods, it’s known for an eclectic mix of trendy cafés, its nightlife and unique boutique shopping locations.
On your first week why not just explore and pop over to Brick Lane for a famous beigel, or head to Spitalfields Market and soak up the atmosphere. Some of the hottest food spots in London are right around the corner.
Being so centrally located, the rest of London is at your fingertips – you can get to some of the most famous attractions in the world, such as Tower Bridge or the Tower of London.
Where is best to go shopping in Shoreditch?
London is a shopping haven. With some famous luxury streets such as Oxford and Regents Street not too far away from Shoreditch, you can explore the capital and get some retail therapy done.
Closer by, however, is the world-famous Spitalfields Market. It’s less of a destination where you go with something in mind, more one you’ll find something special on a whim.
Top tip, check out Redchurch Street, you can find some independent stores as well as some big brands such as Aesop and Le Labo, but for something to make your student accommodation feel special, pop in to Modern Society. You’ll feel like a real Shoreditch local.
What are the best places to eat and drink in Shoreditch?
So. Many. Options. Where to start? There’s plenty of options with both independent food outlets and more well-known restaurants on offer. Some staples include Pizza Express, Flat Iron and Nandos all near Scape Shoreditch. If you fancy trying something else, why not check out some street food markets in the area? including Spitalfields, Whitecross Market and Truman Brewery Markets. You’ll find a whole selection of cuisines from around the world, so make sure you come with an empty stomach!
No matter what your craving, or what time it might be, the streets of Shoreditch will have the ability to satisfy your appetite. Brick Lane, known for its vibrant curry scene, offers a wide variety of restaurants serving traditional cuisine. You can also grab a bite at the famous 24-hour Beigel Shop but beware of the queues!
Take a walk and see what you can find. You’ll discover new favourites in no time.
Is there arts and culture around Shoreditch?
Shoreditch is synonymous with the creative world. It’s renowned for its world-class street artists, suburban art installations, graffiti and pop-ups, offering a sight into the contemporary urban culture. Explore alleyways away from the famous Brick Lane, and Redchurch Street, to discover works by names such as Stik, you might even spot a Banksy or two...
For something a bit different, less than a ten-minute walk from Scape Shoreditch is the Museum of the Home (formerly The Geffrye Museum) showcasing what life has been like through time – from the Tudors to present-day – explore gardens and houses to find out how people lived on the same streets as you do now in historic London.
There are plenty of art galleries to explore such as StolenSpace and Pure Evil – but make sure to check out what’s on at event places like The Old Truman Brewery, and The Village Underground. Venues that will transfer their spaces into pop up installations but also showcase a band or two with some live music.
What are the best outdoor spaces around Shoreditch?
East London may be known for its buzzing nightlife, and creative culture, but it’s also home to a surprising number of outdoor spaces, which provide the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. Whether you’re looking to catch up with friends, relax or just watch the seasons change while taking in the sights, there are plenty of spaces nearby.
Of course, first and foremost, we have our roof terrace at Scape Shoreditch... however, if you wanted to explore a bit more, head to Hoxton Square. A leafy pocket in the city, not far from our student accommodation. With lawns, benches, and plenty of space, it’s an ideal spot for reading, studying or just people-watching. Meet some friends for a picnic or grab some quiet time with a book. The square also hosts installations and small events, blending nature with Shoredtich’s cultural flair.
If you’re willing to explore a bit further, you can hop on a bike, or a tube, and head to some of the famous parks London has to offer. Regents, Hyde and Victoria are all popular choices. With large green spaces, lakes and ponds in the heart of the city you’d sometimes even forget you were in a sprawling city.
Shoreditch also has plenty of cafés, restaurants and pubs with al fresco opportunities – so, whether you’re grabbing a coffee outside or taking a quiet moment in a park, there are plenty of opportunities to unwind and take a break from uni life.
What is the distance to universities around Scape Shoreditch?
Getting to uni from Scape Shoreditch is a breeze. You’re just moments away from a number of transport options, with Old Street tube station and plenty of bus routes right on the doorstep. You can have quick and easy access to the entire city, making it accessible for all university students.
More specifically, though, UCL’s main campus is just 20 minutes away on the Northern Line. If you’re based at UCL East or the London College of Fashion, the Stratford campuses are also easily accessible by public transport. Bayes Business School, and City University are just a 10-minute walk away, while all UAL campuses, including Central St Martins, are within easy reach via the tube.
Is it easy to get around Shoreditch?
Living in the heart of Zone 1 means getting around London is a breeze. With quick and easy access to all major transport links. If you wanted to get into town easily, Old Street station on the Northern Line is just a few minutes' walk from Scape Shoreditch, and the rest of London is right at your fingertips. The Overground is just a short 10-minute walk away, to Shoreditch High Street Station, and there are also multiple bus routes right on your doorstep.
Liverpool Street station is also extremely nearby, with the newly constructed Elizabeth Line and National Rail connections to the wider parts of the UK.
