Mile End’s got a bit of everything to keep you entertained whether you’re into art, bars or the outdoors. Scape is right next to Regents Canal so you can enjoy scenic walks along the waterside and only 15-minutes from the city centre by tube so you can soak up all the excitement the capital has to offer. The East End is well-known for its street art so keep a lookout when you’re wandering around.

Are there any arts and culture attractions in Mile End?
Known for its street art, the East End has lots of colourful art and graffiti adorning the walls so be sure to keep an eye out – you might spot murals from famous artists like Banksy.
If you enjoy film, Genesis Cinema is close by showing the latest movies and Indie films in a quirky, retro setting. There’s often live music and poetry slam nights too. Check out the Ragged School Museum for a unique glimpse at life in a Victorian classroom or Chisenhale Gallery if contemporary art tickles your fancy.
Are there any outdoor spaces and parks in Mile End?
Mile End has loads to offer if you need some fresh air. There are parks nearby you can go for a wander including Mile End Park, with lovely ponds and woodland walks. Take it easy or work up a sweat, it’s up to you.
Scape is right next to Regents Canal. Follow the water upstream and watch the boats pass by, it’s the best escape after a busy week at uni. If you keep going, you’ll soon get to Victoria Park, one of London’s biggest green spaces only 20-minutes away. Play some sports or pull up a picnic blanket with your mates. The All Points East annual music festival with headliners like Stormzy and Dermot Kennedy takes place here too so lookout for that.
What are the best restaurants and bars in Mile End?
Mile End is buzzing with great places to eat. From classic British restaurants to quirky bars, there’s something for everyone. Student favourites like Nandos and Wetherspoons are just a few minutes down the road but if you’re after something more local, check out The Pizza Room or The Victoria – especially in the summertime.
If you don’t mind a short journey, Spitalfields Market has some of the best street food in London with everything from Indian to Japanese to Jamaican and is just 15-minutes away. You can also visit nearby Whitechapel and Bethnal Green for good grub.
Where can I go shopping in Mile End?
Scape Mile End has plenty of stores close by where you can pick up food, fashion and home essentials. For groceries and everyday items, there’s a Sainsbury around the corner along with a big Asda down the road. For everything else, Westfield Stratford City is just one stop away on the tube. It’s the largest shopping centre in Europe with over 300 stores ranging from affordable to upscale. You also have access to more retail shops in the city centre, with Oxford Street only a quick trip away.
If you prefer to shop outdoors, don’t miss Victoria Park Market every Sunday for award-winning street food and live music. Or if you’re leaning towards something more quirky and local, check out Roman Market. Mile End is known for its vintage clothing stores, antique shops and eclectic boutiques so you never know what gems you might find.
What is the distance to university from Scape Mile End?
Mile End is an awesome spot for students, especially if you’re studying at Queen Mary University. Scape is located right on QMUL campus so no need to set an alarm, you can practically sleepwalk to your classes. Transport links in the area are really convenient putting you within easy reach of other universities in London. City University just a short cycle away and UCL only 35-minutes by tube.
What is the best way to travel around Mile End?
You’re in luck. Mile End tube station is just a short walk from Scape. You can easily hop on the tube to explore your city. You’ll have access to the Central, District and Hammersmith & City Lines so it’ll be a breeze commuting to university. There are regular trains into London - Oxford Circus is only 15-minutes away! There’s also bus stops nearby and a cycle lane that heads towards the city right outside our building.
For term holidays or to visit friends and family, you can travel directly to Kings Cross St Pancras station with fast train links across the UK and Europe. It’s also just an hour to Heathrow or London Gatwick airports if flying’s easier
