Stay healthy even when you’re busy

Staying healthy can be difficult at the best of times, and with things starting to open up again in the UK, looking after your health may fall down in your list of priorities. Here are our tips for living a healthy lifestyle when you're busy.

Staying healthy can be difficult at the best of times, and with things starting to open up again in the UK, looking after your health may fall down in your list of priorities. But fear not, we’re here to help. Here’s our top 5 tips on staying healthy even when you’re busy.

Make sure you get enough sleep

Sleep is one of the most important factors for your health and wellness. Even though you may be super busy, it is important to get the recommended sleep each night. It’s amazing what difference this can make to how you feel the next day. When you don’t have an early start in the morning it’s easy to stay up until 2am watching your favourite series, but there’s nothing worse than having to fight to keep your eyes open the next day. If you get the recommended sleep of 7-9 hours a night then you should feel fresh and ready to go when the morning comes.

Learn some quick but healthy dinner ideas

After a long day, the last thing you’ll want to do is spend hours cooking. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of ordering ‘just one more’ Deliveroo or shoving something quick in the oven that’ll be ready in an instant. Whether it’s a pasta dish or a casserole, there are some fantastic quick and healthy dinner recipes out there that you can find easily online or in a cookbook. If you have some go-to options then you won’t have to worry about learning the recipe from scratch every night.

Incorporate exercise into your lifestyle

If you don’t have time in your schedule for exercise, why not try walking, cycling or running instead of using public transport? There are plenty of benefits of everyday walking to your health and wellness and these are all great ways of getting around, plus they are free! If you don’t want to exercise this way or use the gym, you could do your own workout at home. Just 20 minutes exercise a day in your room is a convenient way to stay fit, and is a great way of staying healthy. YouTube has lots of free workouts of varying lengths to suit those of all levels of fitness.

Change what you snack on

Rather than grabbing chocolate or crisps for a mid-afternoon snack, fruit can be just as tasty and is a great alternative for a quick and easy snack. If you pack something healthy for the day ahead, you can also save yourself money by choosing this over a chocolate bar or similar from a vending machine. Fruit (or vegetables to make crudités) can be bought very cheaply and snacking on these is an easy way of maintaining a healthy diet.

Use an app to record your daily activities

One great app to use is My Fitness Pal which allows you to keep a record of your diet and exercise routine. The app sets you goals and tells you how far off you are from achieving them. This will motivate you more than just having a vague goal of ‘eating healthily and exercising’. It’s an effortless way of keeping track of your progress as everything is already set up for you, and there are countless different apps out there to choose from. Alternatively, you could keep a diary of your exercise and diet and monitor yourself this way.
